Art Portfolio Term 2

Term 2 Statistics

Strand Math Sample

Level 3 Learning Outcomes:
- gain information from a variety of data displays.
- be aware of the type of data each display is appropriate for and the kind of pattern/relationship it best communicates.
- link others’ claims with the appropriateness of displays used.

WALT: Sort data into categories

Wiremu is allowed to choose a pet for his birthday. He decides to find out what pets his classmates have.
He gives each classmate a blank data card, asks them to list any pets they have, and collects the cards.
With a classmate, discuss Wiremu’s data. Which information is necessary? Which information is unnecessary?
Which data is difficult to interpret?

Make a comment on one piece of data from above: Petty differences.

Unnecessary group (why is it unnecessary?): my sister because your sister is not a animal.

Hard to interpret group  (why is it hard to interpret?): 3 birds one is sick and being treated

WALT: Interpret and communicate findings about data

The class next door did a similar survey to the one above but they were asked to name their favourite pet. The results are shown on this tally chart and then presented on the bar graph:

Write three statements that interpret the data shown above:

  1. . There were 30 people surveyed

  1. 6 people like dogs 4 people like guinea pigs 12 people like cats 8 people like horses

  1.  the bar graph is telling me that some kids like dogs, horses ect

Discuss with a classmate which graph (bar graph or pie graph) you would prefer to use to
show the information and why?
I would prefer the bar graph because its easier to understand and is clearly layed out

What is the mean of the data above? (Show your working) 12+8+6+4=30 30 divided by 4 =7.5 is the mean

Personal Reflection: i found the hard to interperit question hard to answer but my next step is to stay focused.
My next step in statistics is to create my own graphs.

Week 1 Reflection

In the school holidays miss Turners fish tank went missing, this week we had to investigate the crime scene and find out what had happend and who had stolen miss turners fish tank.

There was smashed glass on the benches and pebbles left everywhere, a fish net some coffee
that was lying on the counter.

I Think one of the most suspious suspects is miss bayliss, because she had bright pink lipstick on and the glass cup in the creative cave was stained with bright pink lipstick.

This week was super fun because we got to investigate a crime scene for the first time, another thing that was cool about this week was writing our own version of miss t and her stolen fish Snoop and Dogg.
